Chanel Mat Lumiere Powder Foundation Review

R.R.P £36.00

I have been desperate to get my hands on a full size palette of this wonderful foundation powder after a very kind friend donated me the remains of their sample. I am not a fan of powder foundations on the whole as my skin tends to be on the dry side but this is my exception…

So firstly I was of course drawn to the black and gold packaging that screams quality, elegance and of course pricey (but I will justify this later in this review!). The palette itself comes in a sturdy plastic which would easily withstand being carried around in a cluttered bag like my own, it has a good size mirror which is great for touch ups and holds 13g of product.

So how does it perform?

The colour range in this product is limited to only 6 options  (I do find that most Chanel liquid foundations are too dark for me even in the palest colour) but luckily I have managed to get away with ’30 Aurore’ which is one of the palest with quite neutral undertones.

This foundation can be applied with a dry sponge or with a damp sponge for a more full coverage. The foundation is advertised as giving a flawless matte complexion whilst letting your skins natural radiance shine through. The staying power is advertised as 12 hours.

So how did it do? I have only tried the dry sponge method but so far the results have been great! My complexion looks almost flawless (I still need concealer here and there) and although I couldn’t say that it stays perfect for 12 hours (more like 8) it is so easy to transport and reapply that it really is not a bother. The finish is velvety and I love the fact that this glides over my skin and doesn’t stick or exaggerate my dry areas. I would say that the colour is probably a little bit on the dark side for me so would probably stick to using this on a night out. My blusher and eye makeup apply brilliantly over this base which is another plus point!

My conclusion

I love this powder, it doesn’t give me a ghost like appearance that some powders do and my inner radiance does seem to shine through. I love the velvety texture which it gives my face and after some experimentation I have found that this applies lovely with a powder brush over a liquid foundation to give an absolutely flawless finish (I am actually considering this for my wedding as I have this much confidence in the product!) this also means the colour blends better. Although on the pricey side this foundation does seem to last and once you have bought the palette you can re buy refills which retail at £26.00 cheaper and just slot into place easy as that!
