EcoTools – brushes with a conscience!

Welcome to my tools section, I am going to begin by talking about some of my favourite brushes which I use on a daily basis, these are my brushes from EcoTools. These synthetic brushes are made from taklon, bamboo and recycled aluminium, they are 100% cruelty free and they are a brilliant find!

1960′s Inspired Beehive Hair – Using Spornette ‘Little Wonder Teasing Brush’

So I have been feeling a little nostalgic of late and have been watching back to back episodes of an old ITV favourite of mine ‘Heartbeat’ it takes me back to Sunday nights when I lived in Yorkshire but what I love about it most is the 1960′s hair and makeup, which helped inspire the following look, it also gives me an opportunity to rant and rave about one of my favourite hair tools of the minute!

Time for a clean-up!

So this week has been about cleaning my favourite makeup tools and whilst I was at it I decided that what better to blog about than the tools I use everyday to create different looks! So I’ve invested in a good brush cleanser and got them all looking great and hope to get blogging about them in my new ‘Tools’ section very soon…

I used Estee Lauders’ ‘makeup brush cleaner’ to get my brushes sparkling and new.

Nailing It!

So as I mentioned in an earlier post this week has been all about the nails. I have to be honest and admit nail polish isn’t a makeup that I’m particularly good at applying, in fact most cases I leave my nails to talented friends or experts but hey ho.. Summer is around the corner and what better time is there to be colourful.

The Brights

I love bright nails and it is fair to say they can be complementing to any complexion. All the above colours are from some of my favourite brands who all seem to be jumping on the neon band wagon, the Nails inc are from the ‘Kings of Neon’ collection they had out last year, although this year they have a wicked ‘Neon and Nude’ collection( retailing at £22.00)  as well as great individual neon colours available this summer.

Barry M is one of my favourite brands for makeup on a budget and their ‘Shocking Pink’ as shown above is great and at £2.99 it is a bargain. The bright red on the left hand side is from Maxfactor mini nail polish collection and is in ‘Red carpet glam’ the coral red colour is great for a daytime or night time look.

Liz Earle Sheer Tint SPF 15 Foundation Review

R.R.P £21.00

I love the idea of a tinted moisturiser or sheer foundation that gives a nice light coverage whilst giving the same skin perfecting results of something heavier. I was very excited to try this makeup from a brand which I have never tried before’ Liz Earle’, the samples may I say were very generous giving one sachet for each available colour:

Goodbye dull nails, welcome to the Summer…

So the days are getting longer (but not necessarily warmer) and we are heading well and truly into summer with this in mind I decided it was time to start being more colourful and what better place to start than my nails! Firstly I found some of my last years classic colours and I couldn’t resist treating myself to a few more on trend colours…

My last years Nail Inc Limited Edition 'Kings of Neon' collection and some of my newbies from Barry M, 17 and Rimmel London.

Look out later in the week as I hope to create some funky looks using these. It would certainly seems that pales and pastels are in but we have yet to say goodbye to brights and fluorescents…

Bright colours and pastels are still ruling as seen in Cosmopolitan and Glamour Mags this month.

An alternative to smokey eyes for pale skin

So having had a little spending spree last week I’ve decided to recreate one of my favourite looks to show you using makeup I already have. This is a really simple eye makeup which works especially well against my pale skin and deeply set eyes (the smokey eye looks is a real no go for me!)

As well as suiting my skin tone I also find these Colours help make my bluey-grey eyes stand out more which is always a nice bonus :)

Mac Studio Sculpt SPF 15 Foundation Review

Whereas my favourite foundations give me a natural matte finish I decided to dabble into the world of dewy and it was with this quest in mind I ended up at the Mac counter. Describing what I wanted; long lasting, medium coverage, fresh dewy looking finish and a creamy feel (I don’t ask for much!!)  This foundation is what Mac has to offer…

The foundation comes in the trademark black box and the product itself comes in a transparent ‘tooth paste’ style tube which you squeeze to release some product, as it is gel based this isn’t remotely messy initially but as you come to the end of the product this could become quite a fiddle.

A nice new dress and tidy make-up…

So Friday 13th and I have just sat down having spent the last 30 mins chasing Cookie the cat around with a piece of bacon (my dinner no less) which she refused to give up until bribed with a suitable alternative which in this case turned out to be Dreamies In Chicken (might be worth remembering this information if you ever find yourself in a similar situation!).

I love all things cat and I just had to mention this bargain dress I picked up in warehouse, I absolutely love the cat print and the dress is great to wear for work with a nice skirt that falls just above the knee and for £29.99 you really can’t go wrong.

I also decided to finally sort my makeup out this week, up to now I’ve been using a huge under bed storage box into which I throw all my makeup, this isn’t ideal when I’m in a rush and I run late because I’m scrambling around looking for my blusher! So I went to one of my favourite bargain stores, pound land, and picked up an array of little plastic storage boxes so I could get organised. The containers have fun multi colourer lids and are stackable, tidy also proved to be very therapeutic;

An Everyday Classic, Elegant ‘Doll look’ for Pale Skin.

A well deserved day off and I decided to treat myself to some bargains and create a new look. So Boots stores are running a 3 for 2 promotion on practically everything so I decided to set myself a challenge and find myself 3 new products which will help me create a classic and elegant look on my pale skin.

For reference for my base I have used;

- Estee Lauder Double wear Foundation in Shell 1c1

- Estee Lauder Lucidity Transparent Loose Powder in Light

- No7 Natural Blush Cheek Colour in Soft Damson.
